The soundscape of our homes

Sounds that surround us at home

We are surrounded at home by a world filled with sounds. Sounds form such an important part of how we interact with each other and live our lives at home. For example, we listen for the sound of a door knock to know when a visitor is at the door. We listen for a baby cry to know when our baby is uneasy, an appliance beep to know when food is ready!

The ability to listen for these sounds without needing to be physically present provides added convenience to our daily lives. For example, parents today use baby monitors to provide them with the peace of mind that they are always listening to their baby no matter where they are in the house.

Smart appliances have also become a smart addition to our day-to-day lives. We now have washing machines that send notifications to let us know when the washing is done. We have smart fridges that alerts us with a beeping sound to let us know when the door has been left opened. Some also send notifications on our phones. The ability that these products offer, in helping us interact with sounds that surround us at home, provide peace of mind and convenience to our busy lives. This convenience, however, usually comes at significant cost as most smart home monitors are purpose designed - which by definition means they are designed specifically for a single application. This mandates the need for multiple smart home monitors making monitoring convenience expensive.

But what if you could have a device that could listen and recognise any and all of these sounds and send an alert to you no matter where you are? Giving you the ability to listen for any sounds you want without actually listening. Turning your old kitchen appliances smart by listening and sending you notifications when they beep. Telling you when a visitor knocks on the door, or when your little one is feeling uneasy. Letting you work with your headphones on (while you are at home) without needing to worry about missing sounds around you. Almost like a third ear that you can leave behind wherever you need it at home. Say Hello to Earzz!
